Christmas!

We got to talk to Spence on Christmas day.  That was super fun!  It's surprising how quickly you forget what someone's voice sounds like when you haven't talked to them for a while but when you hear it you just know it.  The phone call was good but made him pretty homesick.  He knew that would probably happen so it was ok.
Spence got a new companion this week.  This is his first time to experience a transfer so that will be a bit of an adjustment for him.  His new companion goes home in 6 weeks so Spence will be his last companion.  Spence is hoping he's not too trunky and wants to work hard and "finish strong"!  Spencer and Elder Brady went to the Bishop's house for dinner the night before Elder Brady left for his transfer.  The bishop, his wife and all their kids ambushed them with Nerf guns.  He said it was super fun and funny and helped lighten the mood of the homesickness and the sadness he and his companion were feeling about the transfer.
Here's a interesting update - the guy that kept being drunk when they went to teach him?  He got convicted of 4 felonies for embezzelment.  The guy is or has been in politics so he is pretty well known in the area, so it a big deal.  Like Spence said - "so, I guess we won't be teacing him any more".
Like every other missionary - Spence loves hearing from people and catching up on what's going on.  He appreciates the letters and knowing he hasn't been forgotten!!!

Halloween!!!

Spence and his companion had two baptisms last weekend (Oct 29th).  He was super excited because those are the first he has gotten to participate in.  This is what he said about the guy they baptized -
Cragi is in the National Guard.  So, last weekend he had to go to a base for that.  They had a "mandatory party" where every soldier was assigned 3 beers (he used to be a big time drinker)  he got his beers, gave them to his friends and went back to his room and read his Book of Mormon until 3 in the morning!  He said it was the most spiritual day of his life!  How cool is he?

Oh also, we went tracting in this old apartment building (it looks like a castle and used to be this huge mansion house that the president would come stay in and stuff) but we were tracting in there and we almost turned around and left because it was really weird but we decided to stay.  We knocked on every door and nobody was home so we got to the last door, knocked, and started messing around because we figured nobody would answer but then this guy opened the door and he let us in!  It was so awesome!  We taught him the first lesson and gave him a Book of Mormon!  hahaha it's like the classic missionary story but it was so cool because it actually happened to us!

Yet again, a new address!

Spencer was able to call home yesterday to tell my mom that he left all of his socks at the MTC! That crazy kid. The socks are now trying to be found in the MTC laundry....

But because he was able to call home, FROM PITTSBURGH, we now know his apartment address. So to send him a letter/package directly to his apartment, instead of his mission home, use this address:

Elder Spencer Bartlett
1202 Buffalo St
Franklin, PA 16323

He was quite anxious for everyone to have his new address, which means he wants some letters! If you haven't sent him anything, get on it! He loves getting pictures, and like all missionaries, he loves getting treats. But most of all, he just wants to hear how you're doing, so write him a letter.

Leaving the MTC! Next stop- Pittsburgh!

Spence is calling home today from the airport, then it's off to Pittsburgh! What an exciting day!

There was a random chance meeting of Spence with one of this friends at the airport. Danny Harding and his dad were on their way to pick up their older son from his mission when they ran into Spence. Roger, Danny's dad, was nice enough to take a picture of Spence and send it our way!

He said- We just saw Spencer at the airport, so cool! He's looking good.

Way cool!! And he is looking good! Looks like he hasn't gained any weight yet. Go Spence! haha.
